“The Tollbooth”
While exploring around his small town, Jed came across a huge gate with a sign that says “PRIVATE PROPERTY. DO NOT ENTER”. The other side of the gate is an old house that seems to be abandoned for years. The windows are barred up and caution tapes surround the front door. Vines are wrapped around the columns of the house, and a part of the roof is missing replaced by a huge tree that is growing from the inside of the house.
“WOOOW!” Jed shouted as he stares at the abandoned house from left to right.
“Sorry, sign! Adventure is calling!” said Jed to the still sign. He then backs up a couple of steps, then charges at the gate.
BLAM! Jed makes contact to the rusted fence. The gate barely moved an inch, while Jed on the other hand, and was thrown a couple of feet back, hitting the ground with his backside.
“OW! Dang! That hurts!” Shouted Jed, scratching his head, feeling for any bumps or cuts on the back of his head.
Jed continues to lie on the ground, seeing the half of the sky and the other half the gate and its huge sign.
“There must be some way for me to get in….. AHA!” Jed slowly realizes the small lock on the top of the gate, barely seen due to the obstructing the view.
Jed immediately got up on his feet and pulled out his slingshot and a small pebble from his backpack. He pulled on the rubber bands and aimed in one quick motion, closing his right eye to have a better aim. He then loosens his right fingers, letting the rubber bands and the pebble fly with a loud THWIP.
The pebble hit the hinge that kept the gate lock. The rusty gate then slowly opens, as if it had never moved in centuries.
“Haha! I did it! Not today sign! Jed the Adventurer claims another one!” Shouted Jed as he runs into the house, filled with excitement and the sense of adventure.
